Hannah Is a Palindrome

I have a terrible memory. Some days I walk upstairs to get an item and by the 8th step, I have completely forgotten my reason for climbing it. I can only recall a handful of my elementary school teachers’ names, even fewer of the students’. Most times it’s a pretty annoying issue. But other times, it’s almost a gift (I can watch a movie for what feels like the first time at least 3 times). The school-age memories that do remain intact are strangely vivid. One that stands out took place some 25 (ouch!) years ago. I remember walking into my reading class and seeing the words “Hannah Is a Palindrome” written neatly on the blackboard. I had never heard or seen the word before and given the fact that Ms. What’s-Her-Face usually wrote nothing on the board until class began, I knew something was up. I was certain that I was about to learn something awesome. And I did. Sure, it’s a pretty useless word when you think about it. But tell that to 7-year-old me and you may have gotten slapped in the face. I still have a fondness for the palindrome and incidentally, the name Hannah. I met a Hannah today and was as excited about her look as I was that day in 2nd grade.
