The Last Place You Look

Every morning without fail I have the same argument with myself.

Me: Grab your camera.
(Me): Ugh. But it’s so bulky. And I don’t want to risk messing it up or losing it somehow. Wah.
Me: You should really grab it just in case you encounter something or someone amazing.
(Me): But I’m going to the DMV. When’s the last time you saw something amazing take place at the DMV?
Me: Remember that one guy at Fiesta? The one with the ascot*?
(Me): …Fine.

I won today’s argument (as is usually the case when arguing with oneself) and lugged the camera to the zoo with the boys. The zoo at 10:30 on a Thursday morning really is one of the last places you’d look for killer style. Comfort is key and a T-shirt/yoga pants/sneakers combo seems to be the only accepted form of dress. But not for Marius and his beautiful little Ethiopian princess pictured below. You’ll have to excuse the lack of detail about his clothing. The whole encounter – from introducing myself, explaining why I wanted to photograph them, actually taking the pictures and so on – had to go down in about 32 seconds while the both of us were tugged on and beckoned by the little ones. In all the chaos, I did manage to catch that Marius is a photographer from New York (which would explain why he was unaware of our strict t-shirt/yoga pants policy). His work can be viewed here.

*I think ascots are amazing.
